Conflict LED lighting with some Can-bus systems.

While the benefits of LED lighting over traditional lighting are clear and the demand for LED lighting is growing, the operation boil not yet optimal.

We are sometimes contacted by customers with the problem that the LED lighting on their Van 'n Bike carrier system is not working properly. An error message appears on the dashboard and/or the lights flash (Christmas tree effect).

How does that happen?

De cause This is not the case with LED lighting, but it is at the lighting module or CAN bus system installed in the camper.

A CAN bus system (controller area network) ensures that an error message appears if the lighting is not working optimally.

If the power consumption from the lighting is no longer sufficient, the module will detect this and issue an error message.

Because an LED light uses much less power than an incandescent light bulb, the module detects this as a malfunction in the operation of the lights.

The result is that a message appears on the dashboard and/or the lights start flashing. (Christmas tree effect)

The lighting modules offered by Van 'n Bike are designed for this and do not have this problem.

Possible solutions :

  • Contact the installer of the lighting module. It is possible to install a resistor.
  • Replace LED lighting with incandescent lighting.
