BIALETTI Moka Express - Instructions for use

You have just bought a Bialetti Moka Express, or are planning to buy one?

Good idea! With the right "espresso coffee" (fairly finely ground), you can make a delicious cup of coffee with Italian flair!

What should we do before using our Bialetti Moka Express?

Check that the expresso maker is complete with the valve, funnel, leather and filter plate.

Clean well with water.

Then make 3 x coffees, which you are not allowed to drink.

How do we make our first espresso cup?

  • Fill the heating element (lower part) with cold water up to the safety valve.
  • Place the funnel filter in the heating element.
  • Fill the funnel filter with ground coffee, without pressing it down, and make sure that no coffee residue remains on the edge.
  • Turn the collection cup (upper part) on the heating element
  • Close it with force, but without overdoing it, without using the handle.
  • Place the Espresso Maker on a heating source.
  • On a gas cooker, make sure that the flame does not go outside the heating element.
  • The max. intensity must not be used with electric or vitroceramic cookers.
  • As soon as the collection cup is filled with coffee, you can remove the Espresso Maker from the heat source.

How to clean up after use?

  • First wait until the espresso maker has cooled down.
  • Clean with lukewarm water after each use. (Not dishwasher-safe!)
  • Do not use cleaning agents and/or abrasive materials
  • Do not close Espresso Maker completely when storing it (prevents bad smells)
  • When emptying the hopper, do not hit anything to avoid deformation.

Anti-calcium treatment?

  • Fill the heating element with water up to the valve
  • Add 3 spoonfuls of vinegar or citric acid
  • Turn the collection cup, with empty coffee filter, on the heating element
  • Put on the cooker, as you would make coffee.
  • Discard the resulting solution.
  • Now repeat the procedure for first-time use. (3 x making coffee)

With the right treatment, the Espresso Maker will last a lifetime!

It is advisable to replace the leather (sealing ring) once a year.
